Sheila has been painting and drawing for over 20 years and having left a career in IT now concentrates on developing her work as an artist & printmaker. Her images originate primarily from drawings and sketches made on location - including whilst travelling in the UK, Europe and Canada - which she then uses as a basis for printmaking and mixed media painting. She enjoys ‘focusing in’ on subjects and using the same or similar images to explore different techniques and media.
In painting, she is currently experimenting with a variety of water-based mixed media (watercolour, gouache, acrylic and ink) as well as different techniques for incorporating texture into her work or creating a surface on which to begin, such as traditional Gesso. The spontaneity and unexpected results that often occur from a mixed media approach can be both surprising and exciting.
In Printmaking, Sheila is concentrating on developing her expertise in Etching (including Solar Plate), Drypoint and Monoprint. Her inspiration comes from trees or woods as well as leaves collected whilst out walking at home or abroad.
Sheila has exhibited and sold work at a variety of group exhibitions including The Juno Studio (at The Guildhall, Winchester), The Oxmarket Gallery (Chichester), The Art Cafe (Winchester), Chandlers Ford Art Group, West Dean College and Red Hot Press.
She is a member of Red Hot Open Access Print Workshop and Cowprint, the workshop’s artists’ group. She is also a member of Winchester Art Club and Chandlers Ford Art Group.
